By Agência Marinha de Notícias – Foz do Iguaçu, PROn Wednesday morning (29), the Brazilian Navy, in an action coordinated with other military and public security forces, seized contraband from Argentina on the Iguaçu River, in Foz do Iguaçu (PR). Military personnel from the Paraná River Captaincy, with the support of a helicopter from the 1st Squadron of General Purpose Helicopters, intercepted two boats crossing the border with a total load of almost R$60,000.

A team from the Federal Highway Police simultaneously stopped a car that was part of the gang and was also carrying contraband goods. The mission also included reinforcements from the Brazilian Army and agents from the Federal Police, the Federal Revenue Service and the Agricultural Defense Surveillance Program for International Borders (Vigifronteira), of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.

“The seizure strengthens the continuous commitment of the institutions, consolidating the importance of joint and coordinated action between the security agencies, in order to weaken smuggling in the region,” said the Captain of the Ports of the Paraná River, Frigate Captain Edésio Raimundo de Assis Junior.

In November alone, the Naval Force, in an inter-agency action, discovered and dismantled a clandestine warehouse in Foz do Iguaçu; seized a boat with 175 boxes of cigarettes smuggled from Paraguay, on Itaipu Lake, in the municipality of São Miguel do Iguaçu (PR), and took part in the siege of criminals that resulted in the seizure of 165 kg of marijuana on the Paraná River, in Foz do Iguaçu.
