On September 21, the Brazilian Navy and the Brazilian Army signed a partnership agreement for the manufacture of the São Félix do Araguaia Riverine Operations Boat. Four (4) samples of the armored boat will be built by the Navy Arsenal in Rio de Janeiro.

The boat will increase the combat power of military organizations working in riverine operations, especially in the military commands of the South, West, North and Amazon. The vessel is capable of transporting an armed and equipped Infantry Combat Group, and has armored protection and firepower compatible with the nature of riverine operations. The São Félix do Araguaia Riverine Operations Boat will increase the Army’s capacity to patrol the waterways, collaborating in the defense of the border strip and combating environmental crimes.

The manufacture of the vessel by the Brazilian Navy favors greater interoperability between the Forces, as well as contributing to national technological development and job creation.

The signing of the partnership was attended by the Head of the Department of Science and Technology, the Director General of Navy Material, the Deputy Head of the Department of Engineering and Construction, the Industrial Director of the Navy, the Director of Engineering Material and the Director of Manufacturing. The initiative is part of the Brazilian Army’s Armored Vessel Procurement Project.
