The Ministry of Defense (MD) will participate in the 13th LAAD Defence & Security between April 11 and 14, at the Riocentro convention center, in Rio de Janeiro (RJ). The fair, held every two years, is considered the most important in the segment in Latin America. This year, LAAD will bring together 310 exhibitors and 160 national and international delegations, with a focus on promoting the national Defense Industrial Base (BID), increasing the country’s technological and productive autonomy and developing dual technologies that also benefit civil society.

Sovereignty – Investing in military capacity is fundamental for Brazil to guarantee its sovereignty and fight terrorism, transnational organized crime, piracy, cyber attacks and possible external threats. Thus, one of the MD’s premises is to ensure the joint and synergistic action of the Armed Forces (AF), in the defense of the territory (sea, land and air), in the optimization of resources, in capacity building and training processes, in military logistics and in subsidiary actions in support of society, among others. In other words, to be ready to act when and where necessary, with a high level of prompt-response.

In the last edition, in 2019, national and international companies were present at LAAD, in areas such as aeronautical and naval engineering; personal and tactical equipment; and ammunition and weapons for the advancement of defense capabilities. There were 2,503 meetings between delegations and exhibitors. In 2021, the fair was not held due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Programming – During the four days of the event, the Ministry of Defense, through the Secretariat of Defense Products (Seprod), the Logistics and Mobilization Department (Chelog), and the Management and Operational Center of the Amazon Protection System (Censipam), will present several panels on the IDB incentive work and a symposium on the Logistics and Mobilization area, besides holding bilateral meetings with authorities and representatives from several countries.

With 100 square meters, the MD booth, in pavilion 2 of LAAD, will have meeting rooms, a thematic exhibition area on strategic projects of the Ministry and the Armed Forces, video projections and interactive totems on the work with the IDB. Another three spaces, dedicated to the Navy, Army and Air Force, will also bring technological innovations and essential projects for the defense of Brazil. Access will be open to the public through accreditation.

LAAD 2023 – The Latin American defense and security trade show has been held since 1997. Besides the Armed Forces, other Brazilian and international institutions specialized in the supply of equipment and “multi-client” services participate in the event: armed forces, special forces, security forces and government agencies, among others.

The program also includes security exhibitions, congresses and seminars with all kinds of information and news from the sector. The MD’s participation at LAAD 2023 is the result of a partnership with the event’s organizing company, under a cooperation agreement.
