BAE Systems signs contract to upgrade Danish CV90 fleetBAE Systems signs contract to upgrade Danish CV90 fleet

BAE Systems has signed a contract with the Danish Ministry of Defence to upgrade the Danish CV90 fleet, ensuring the high performance of the vehicles for years to come. This upgrade contract is a consequence of a previous commercial agreement relating to repair and maintenance services.

According to the contract, the Danish CV90 infantry fighting vehicles will be integrated with the new D-series turret, featuring advances in design and functionality that provide significant improvements in the vehicle’s balance and new possibilities for integrating various armaments, thus increasing its firepower. In addition, the new vehicle provides substantial ergonomic improvements for the crew, based on years of combat experience, continuous improvements to the vehicle and data analysis by the CV90 Users Club, made up of all the nations using the vehicle.

“I am delighted to sign this contract to upgrade the Danish CV90 fleet. This is a major upgrade of one of the Army’s most essential weapons systems. As the manufacturer of the vehicles, BAE Systems Hägglunds has great knowledge of the capability and this upgrade will ensure that the vehicles are ready for future operations,” said Lieutenant General Kim Jesper Jørgensen, Director of the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization (DALO).

“These upgrades will provide Danish CV90 crews with greater protection and combat efficiency, while ensuring the functionality of the Royal Danish Army’s current CV90 fleet,” added Tommy Gustafsson-Rask, managing director of BAE Systems Hägglunds, which is responsible for the design and production of the CV90 family of vehicles.

The modernizations include the installation of rubber tracks on the CV90s, reducing the weight of the vehicle and allowing for the addition of new systems, as well as lowering noise and vibrations to minimize the long-term biomechanical impact on the crew and reduce fatigue. The modernized vehicles will be equipped with an anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) and a Defence Aid Suite (DAS) sensor system, increasing the firepower and protection of Danish troops. The program is scheduled to be delivered between 2026 and 2029, in close collaboration with Danish industry and partners.

The BAE Systems Hägglunds CV90 infantry fighting vehicle is a world leader in the 20 to 38 tonne class and is renowned for its combat capability. Integrating a wide range of weapon systems, the CV90 offers all-target capability to ground forces around the world. With a total of 1,700 vehicles on order in 17 different variations, the CV90 has already covered more than eight million kilometers. Selected by 10 European nations, eight of which are NATO members, the CV90 has already been operated in Liberia and participated in combat in Afghanistan and Ukraine.
