Brazilian Navy aircraft support humanitarian actions and the fight against illegal mining in the region

On Tuesday, July 25, the aircraft of the Brazilian Navy, the Brazilian Army and the Brazilian Air Force reached the milestone of 6,000 flight hours in humanitarian actions and in support of the fight against illegal mining, through Operations “Yanomami” and “Ágata Fronteira Norte”.

The distances covered by the aircraft are equivalent to more than 3,000 stretches between the cities of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo or about 28 laps around the world, or the length corresponding to three trips from the Earth to the Moon.

Since the beginning of the year, 715 tons of food, medicines and other materials have been transported. In addition, about 4,000 people have been airlifted, including health professionals, members of government agencies, Public Security Organizations (OSP) and military personnel. There were also 350 displacements of indigenous people and 102 Aeromedical Evacuations.

Through air travel, 87 arrested illegal miners were transported from the Yanomami Indigenous Land to Boa Vista (RR), where they were taken to the Headquarters of the Federal Police Superintendence.
Actions to combat illegal mining in the Amazon contribute to the preservation of the environment and the protection of the health and well-being of indigenous communities in the region.

Operation “Ágata Fronteira Norte” is a coordinated effort between the Armed Forces, agencies, and OSP, in accordance with Decree No. 11,405, of January 30, 2023, amended by Decree No. 11,575, of June 21, 2023.
