Cape Girardeau (USA) – The Amazon Military Command took part in the 1st International Amazon Forum, held in Cape Girardeau, United States, from March 18 to 20. The event highlighted the important role of the Army, proposed discussions, suggested solutions to the region’s issues, debated the importance of environmental preservation and the role of science and technology in the sustainable development of the Amazon.

The Forum promoted lectures, round tables and panel discussions to address the Amazon region from the point of view of Amazonians, as well as the potential and solutions for the future of the largest biome on the planet. The Military Commander of the Amazon, Army General Ricardo Augusto Ferreira Costa Neves, discussed the Army’s environmental policy, its efforts to preserve the environment and the role of the Force in the social construction of the Amazon.

General Costa Neves also presented the challenges that the Army faces in logistics, especially in transportation, highlighting the work of military engineering in cooperation with the regional development of the Amazon.

The event, organized by Southeast Missouri State University, was attended by Brazilian magistrates and higher education institutions from Amazonas and Amapá. The Forum also paid tribute to Dr. Adalberto Carim Antônio, who was the 1st Judge of the Environmental Court of Amazonas.
