55th NAVAMAER - Integration between the Military Schools of the Brazilian Armed Forces55th NAVAMAER - Integration between the Military Schools of the Brazilian Armed Forces

The 55th edition of NAVAMAER, a sports competition between the officer training schools of the Brazilian Armed Forces – Escola Naval (EN), Academia Militar das Agulhas Negras (AMAN) and Academia da Força Aérea (AFA) – took place from August 25 to September 1 at AMAN, in Resende (RJ). For a week, around 650 athletes competed in 12 sports.

The breaking of records, the winning of countless medals, the exchange of experiences, camaraderie and social interaction between the young soldiers were present at every moment of the competition. “We broke records that had stood for more than four decades. It was eight days of great unity and dedication, in which we saw our athletes bravely competing for every medal. However, the most important thing about the competition was the integration between the three forces,” said AMAN Commander, Brigadier General João Felipe Dias Alves.

The women stood out for breaking records, such as Cadet Ana Laura, from AMAN, an individual record holder in two athletics events and who, together with Cadets Monique, Natália Santos and Lina Garcia, won gold in the 4x100m relay.

In shooting, AMAN won all the gold medals. The Air Carbine Shooting team, made up of Cadets Moreira, Mocroski, Bonassa, Cardeal and Isabela and led by 1st Lieutenant Lisboa, broke the team record, with Cadet Moreira breaking the individual record with 611 points. A record was also broken by Cadet Isabela, who scored 566 points in the Standard Rifle and beat the 27-year-old record for the event.

In the Military Pentathlon, Cadet Fernanda Peiter set a record in the grenade throwing event. In the PPM, AMAN athletes secured their first podium places by improving their marks. “I managed to improve my time compared to last year, even though the track was more difficult in 2023. Training made all the difference,” said Cadet Miguel.

Excitement in the triathlon, where the healthy rivalry between the Forces took on a familiar air with the contest between brothers Aspirante Henrique Oliveira (EN) and Cadet Daniel Reis (AMAN).

AMAN also won gold in Swimming, Orienteering, Judo, Football and Fencing, with its athletes always showing a lot of grit and technique on the courts and with the support of the fervent fans, AMAN took gold once again in volleyball and basketball. Major Shirado, coach of the basketball team, said: “What guaranteed us the top spot on the podium was our better technical, mental and physical preparation on the court.”

The results of all the sports can be seen on the NAVAMAER App (https://linkr.bio/NAVAMAER2023), a tool that made the event more dynamic. “Those who couldn’t attend saw our activities in real time. The app was a success with more than 2,000 downloads and 80,000 views,” said Cadet Cavalcante, from AMAN’s Communications course.

NAVAMAER closes with the certainty of having provided an opportunity for cadets and midshipmen to put their skills to the test and reward the effort they put into training throughout the year.

Next year, the delegations will meet at the Eagles’ Nest at AFA in Pirassununga (SP) for the 56th edition of NAVAMAER.

Congratulations to the athletes!

Friendship through sport!
