A car rammed into pedestrians at a bus stop in the Ramot neighborhood injuring seven people and killing two

On Friday (10), a terrorist attack in Jerusalem killed a six-year-old child and a 20-year-old man. The young man was an Orthodox Jew and had been married for two months. His wife was also at the scene and is in critical condition.

The attack took place in the Ramot neighborhood, when a car ran over pedestrians who were waiting at the bus stop. At least seven people were injured, including two children, an 8-year-old in serious condition, and two 20-year-olds with moderate injuries. Some of the victims were members of the same family and, according to a paramedic, were waiting for transportation together. The attack came less than two weeks before another bombing in Jerusalem, which killed seven people in a synagogue.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, the terrorist is a 31-year-old man, identified as Hossein Qraqaa, who lives in the eastern part of the neighborhood, where most of the population is Palestinian. He was killed on the spot by a civilian before the police team arrived. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that quick action will be taken and ordered that the terrorist’s house be cordoned off and demolished. Netanyahu also ordered the arrest of people close to Qraqaa. The police are treating the case as terrorism, since it occurred just before Shabbat, the day of rest for Jews. Roadblocks have also been set up on the roads leading to the place where Qraqaa came from.

The Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine and Hamas, both terrorist groups, did not take responsibility for the attack, but did extol it. A Hamas spokesman called the attack “a heroic response to the crimes of occupation.” The hit comes at a time of escalating tensions between the Palestinian and Israeli population in the Gaza Strip.

According to André Lajst, a political scientist specialized in the Middle East and executive president of StandWithUs Brazil, there will never be peace while it is taught in Palestinian schools that Israel does not exist and that Jews are enemies. “While Israel makes every effort to save lives, including sending 400 men to the rescue of earthquake victims in Turkey, innocent Israeli civilians are murdered at a bus stop by terrorists who do not accept the existence of a Jewish state,” he says.
