The submarine (S-41) “Humaitá” underwent, throughout the month of March, dynamic immersion and deep immersion tests, off the coast of Rio de Janeiro. The submarine is the second of the four with diesel-electric propulsion planned by the Submarine Development Program (PROSUB) and follows the schedule of acceptance tests at sea, before its definitive incorporation into the Fleet’s service. After the Submarine “Riachuelo”, the “Humaitá” will be one more naval means to reinforce the protection of the Brazilian jurisdictional waters in the South Atlantic.

Dynamic and Deep Dive are fundamental steps in the submarine’s construction and crew training process, since they not only evaluate the submarine’s capacity to dive safely, but also attest to the level of readiness of the submarine’s crew. The result of these evaluations consolidates one more stage foreseen in the schedule until its final delivery.

Frigate Captain Martim Bezerra de Morais Júnior, future Commander of the “Humaitá”, states that “the crew is engaged and committed, applying all the knowledge received and efforts to conduct the submarine safely at sea, during the testing period, in order to ensure that it will be incorporated into the Navy’s Operational Sector, thus fulfilling its purpose of contributing to the improvement of the defense of the Blue Amazon and, consequently, strengthening the sovereignty of Brazil.

The PROSUB schedule indicates the possibility of transferring the S-41 to the Operational Sector in the second half of this year. The tests in operational environment of the “Humaitá” represent another important step under the PROSUB, which consolidates itself as a Strategic Program for the Brazilian State, training skilled labor and raising the strategic potential of scientific and technological development of the country.
