Operation between the Brazilian Navy and the French Navy and Army reinforces the capacity for combined action

The Brazilian Navy (MB), together with the French National Navy and the French Land Army are exercising interoperability, the capacity to operate in a combined manner, through “Operation Fortaleza”, which began on May 28 and will be carried out until June 1st, in the metropolitan region of Fortaleza. The purpose of the exercise is to increase the training of the military personnel involved, contribute to the country’s foreign policy, and increase maritime security in the South Atlantic.
The operation is an opportunity to strengthen the interoperability of the armed forces involved, as stated by Sea and War Captain (Marine) Luís Felippe Valentini da Silva, Commander of the Landing Troop. “The exercise allows us to raise the level of integration, since the preparation for a combined Amphibious Operation – involving Brazilian and French means in the projection of power, of a naval nature, from sea to land – requires an intense exchange of techniques, tactics and procedures. It is important to emphasize that although the training period is less than a week, the planning of the operation has been under development since April.
The importance of the training is also due to its location. It is a way for the Navy and especially for the Fleet Marine Force to test its expeditionary and logistical capacity, since several means were moved from Rio de Janeiro to Fortaleza, thus covering a distance of more than 2,500 km, as Commander Valentini recalls. “Operation Amphibious is by nature a highly complex operation, since it involves naval resources, Amphibious Caterpillar Cars (CLAnf) and marines,” he recalls.
During yesterday’s day (28th) were present the French Ambassador in Brazil, Mrs. Brigitte Collet and the French Army Commander (Chef d’état-major de l’Armée de terre), General Pierre Schill, who followed all the training with the CLAnf. In the next few days several trainings will take place, such as survival, explosives workshop, obstacles, urban patrol, and shooting.
On June 1st an amphibious operation will take place at the Mansa beach involving Brazilian and French ships and marines. The exercise counts with the participation of more than 450 military from both nationalities, as well as the following means: Amphibious Helicopter Carrier (PHA) “Mistral” and Frigate “Courbet”, from the French National Navy, Ocean Patrol Ship “Araguari” and CLAnf, from the Brazilian Navy.

L'”Opération Fortaleza” se déroule jusqu’au 1er juin à Ceará
La marine brésilienne (MB), la marine nationale française et l’armée de terre française exercent l’interopérabilité, c’est-à-dire la capacité d’opérer de manière combinée, dans le cadre de l’opération “Fortaleza”, qui a débuté le 28 mai et se poursuivra jusqu’au 1er juin, dans la région métropolitaine de Fortaleza. L’exercice vise à accroître la formation des militaires impliqués, à contribuer à la politique étrangère du pays et à renforcer la sécurité maritime dans l’Atlantique Sud. L’opération est l’occasion de renforcer l’interopérabilité des forces armées impliquées, comme l’a déclaré le capitaine de mer et de guerre (marine) Luís Felippe Valentini da Silva, commandant de la troupe de débarquement.
“L’exercice nous permet d’élever le niveau d’intégration, car la préparation d’une opération amphibie combinée – impliquant des moyens brésiliens et français dans la projection de puissance, de nature navale, de la mer vers la terre – nécessite un échange intense de techniques, de tactiques et de procédures. Il est important de souligner que, bien que la période d’entraînement dure moins d’une semaine, la planification de l’opération est en cours d’élaboration depuis avril.
L’importance de la formation est également due à sa localisation. C’est une façon pour la Marine et surtout pour la Fleet Marine Force de tester sa capacité expéditionnaire et logistique, puisque plusieurs moyens ont été déployés de Rio de Janeiro à Fortaleza, couvrant ainsi une distance de plus de 2 500 km, comme l’a rappelé le commandant Valentini. “L’opération amphibie, par nature, est une opération d’une grande complexité, car elle implique des ressources navales, des voitures amphibies Caterpillar (CLAnf) et des marines”, rappelle-t-il.
Au cours de la journée d’hier (28) étaient présents l’Ambassadeur de France au Brésil, Mme Brigitte Collet et le Commandant de l’Armée française (Chef d’état-major de l’Armée de terre), le Général Pierre Schill, qui a accompagné toute la formation avec le CLAnf. Au cours des prochains jours, divers cours de formation auront lieu, tels que la survie, l’atelier d’explosifs, les obstacles, la patrouille urbaine et le tir. Le 1er juin, une opération amphibie aura lieu à Praia Mansa, impliquant des navires et des marines brésiliens et français. L’exercice compte avec la participation de plus de 450 militaires des deux nationalités, ainsi que les moyens suivants : le porte-hélicoptères amphibie (PHA) “Mistral” et la frégate “Courbet”, de la marine nationale française, le patrouilleur océanique “Araguari” et le CLAnf, de la marine brésilienne.
