With security forces working to combat organized crime through the Guarantee of Law and Order (GLO), Operation Air Bridge, carried out by the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) in coordination with agents from the Federal Revenue Service, the Federal Police and the Federal Highway Police, made new drug seizures at Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) in São Paulo on Wednesday (20/12). Two people were arrested.

The first seizure took place in the morning, during the disembarkation of a flight from Manaus (AM). The military carried out a personal search in coordination with the Federal Revenue Service, Federal Police and Federal Highway Police and identified 3.7 kilos of marijuana, taped to a passenger’s waist. The man was arrested by the São Paulo State Civil Police. On the same flight, a suitcase was seized containing approximately 15 kilos of marijuana divided into tablets.

In the afternoon, FAB sniffer dogs found 750 capsules of cocaine hidden in medicine jars that were being delivered to the Cargo Terminal. The sniffing operation also identified 64 grams of cocaine in the luggage of a passenger who was about to board a flight to Paris, France. During the procedure conducted by the PF, it was discovered that the man had swallowed cocaine capsules, which amounted to 1.9 kilos. He was arrested by the Federal Police.

The operation in cooperation with other agencies is aimed at combating organized crime, through the Guarantee of Law and Order (GLO), in accordance with Decree No. 11,765 of November 1, 2023, which authorizes the use of the Armed Forces in ports and airports.

The commander of the operation, Air Brigadier Major Luiz Guilherme da Silva Magarão, pointed out that the FAB’s operations at Galeão (RJ) and Guarulhos (SP) airports were stepped up in December, due to the expected traffic over the holidays. “The aim is to contribute to the other airport agencies at this time of increased traffic. These actions reflect the maturing of the synergistic relationship between the agencies,” said the General Officer.

Since the beginning of December, 273 missions have been carried out at the two airports, which represents an increase of 75% in relation to those carried out by the operation between 06 and 30/11.
