The name of the new Rector of the Technological Institute of Aeronautics (ITA), who will serve for the four-year period 2024-2027, was announced on Thursday, December 7, by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Brigadier Lieutenant Marcelo Kanitz Damasceno.

Aeronautical Engineer Professor Doctor Antonio Guilherme de Arruda Lorenzi was chosen by the Commander of the Air Force, from a triple list presented by a High Level Commission, chaired by Air Brigadier Major José Virgílio Guedes de Avellar, Commander and Rector of the Air Force University. This Commission, made up of five members with renowned reputations and experience in university teaching or research, was appointed by the Director General of the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology, Air Brigadier Maurício Augusto Silveira de Medeiros, and its mission was to conduct the entire selection process for choosing the new Rector of ITA.

The announcement of the position was made in a letter signed by Lieutenant Brigadier Damasceno, in which he praised the relevance of ITA, stating that it is a “teaching institution of excellence, recognized for its heritage in Science and Technology in the Aerospace Sector”. “May this new phase be another vibrant chapter in ITA’s pioneering history, representing not only everyone’s ‘synergistic effort’ on behalf of this great institution, but also the personal and professional development of those who will always be part of this magnificent journey of high-level educational encouragement in our country,” he added.

The current Rector, Professor Anderson Ribeiro Correia, who is ending his mandate after two periods totaling seven years at the head of the Institute, congratulated the chosen one. “I am confident that in this new stage, quality education, the search for innovation and the continuity of excellent relationships with the government and industry will remain the pillars that will guide the decisions of this, one of the country’s leading educational institutions,” he said.

THE NEW RECTOR

Antonio Guilherme de Arruda Lorenzi holds a bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering from ITA (Class of 1982), a postgraduate degree in Business Administration from the São Paulo Business School of the Getulio Vargas Foundation (EAESP/FGV), a master’s degree in Technology and Innovation from the Federal Technological University of Paraná (UTFPR) and a PhD in Business Administration from the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (PUCPR).

In his Lattes CV, he defines his professional history as being “developed in important national companies and institutions, as an Engineer, Executive, Teacher and Researcher, in the segments of Aviation; Information Technology and Communications; Research, Development and Innovation; Government; and Health, Public and Private (Hospitals and Health Plan Operators)”. He also adds that his “main area of interest and knowledge is Administration, at the Executive, Advisory and Strategic levels (Boards of Directors)”.
