The Commander of Operation Ágata Fronteira Norte, Army General Ricardo Augusto Ferreira Costa Neves, accompanied by the High Command of the Operation, chaired the meeting, held on July 20, between the Armed Forces, agencies and Public Security Bodies (OSP), aiming to coordinate new advances in joint work in support of the Yanomami Indigenous Land (TIY).

Also present were the Deputy Commander of the Ágata Fronteira Norte Joint Command, Brigadier General Carlos Alberto Rodrigues Pimentel, the Chief of the Joint Staff, Brigadier General André Gustavo Fernandes Peçanha, the Commander of the Component Naval Force (FNC), Rear Admiral (FN) Reinaldo Reis de Medeiros, and the Commander of the 1st Jungle Infantry Brigade and the Component Ground Force (FTC), Brigadier General Paulo Edson Santa Barba.

During the meeting, General Costa Neves highlighted the importance of integrating the Armed Forces, Agencies and Public Security Bodies in support of TIY. “Our union means the presence of the Brazilian State in this region. This effort here is to provide health care to them (indigenous people),” said the General Officer.

Among the planned actions, according to the Deputy Commander of the Ágata Fronteira Norte Joint Command, Brigadier General Carlos Alberto Rodrigues Pimentel, operations Homoxi and Rangel are already being carried out to combat illegal mining. “In this more repressive part alone, we already have about 35 arrests of illegal miners. We captured more than 15 illegal miners in Homoxi, for example, and we will remain there until the region stabilizes. Today, we are working in Rangel, together with Ibama “, he pointed out.

In this context, the Environmental Analyst and Superintendent of IBAMA in Roraima, Diego Milleo Bueno, emphasized the work provided by the Armed Forces in the TIY region. “I would like to emphasize the importance of this occupation in Homoxi. I congratulate here the work of the Armed Forces and the effort they made, because it is a reconquest of territory,” he emphasized.

On the occasion, the Joint Command Commander also reaffirmed the commitment of Operation Ágata Fronteira Norte to maintain constant efforts to curb illegal activities and protect indigenous communities in TIY. “The Brazilian State understands the prevalence of actions and these displacements that you need to make to provide assistance. We will provide you with security to go there and act,” said General Costa Neves.

At the end of the meeting, the Commander of the Operation thanked the agencies and Public Security Bodies for their presence and ratified the need to coordinate new measures so that the success of the Operation continues in indigenous communities.
