The Bahia Commercial Association (ACB) received, on the morning of August 7, representatives of several private and governmental entities to learn about the activities of the Naval Technological Cluster, presented by the CEO of the Naval Projects Management Company (EMGEPRON), Reserve Lieutenant Admiral Edesio Teixeira Lima Junior.

About 140 guests attended the event “Economy of the Sea – Naval Technological Cluster of Bahia”, which aimed to discuss the challenges for the development and opportunities of the Blue Economy in the state of Bahia.

On the occasion, Admiral Edesio presented considerations on the Naval Technological Cluster of Rio de Janeiro (RJ), showing that an environment of cooperation and partnerships was created in RJ for economic agents, public and private, from a space of dialog and negotiation between academia, industry and government.

The event was organized by the Command of the 2nd Naval District and was supported by ACB, the Federation of Industries of Bahia, SENAI Cimatec, Belov Shipyard and the Legislative Assembly of the State of Bahia, which was represented by State Representative Tiago Correia. Also present were Federal Deputies Félix Mendonça Júnior and José Rocha, as well as State Deputy Luciano Araújo.

“We are following this movement throughout the country and I was invited by the Commander of the 2nd Naval District, Vice Admiral Antonio Carlos Cambra, to give this lecture to a select group of businessmen and government representatives, in order to present a model that has resulted in a more favorable business environment in Rio de Janeiro to possibly extend it to Bahia,” said Admiral Edesio.

Bahia is the Brazilian state with the largest number of municipalities facing the sea and has the largest coastal area in the Blue Amazon, with 1,100 km and 36 municipalities, and the Bay of All Saints (BTS) is the second largest bay in the world and the largest in the country, which demonstrates the economic potential of the state.

“The moment is special. We came in a growth and development work of the Bahian economy, mainly the Economy of the Sea, not only in the BTS, but also in the whole extension of its coastline, mainly on the south coast. The partnership between the Brazilian Navy and other prominent institutions shows the importance that is being given to this theme here in Bahia,” said Admiral Cambra.

“It is an honor and a great pride for the Bahia Commercial Association to host this event. We deal here with issues that matter for the economic and technological development of the state of Bahia and our country. Our commercial association will work together with all the entities involved and will give full support to this important project “, highlighted the President of ACB, Paulo Cavalcanti.

The Economy of the Sea includes the most diverse activities related to the sea, such as, for example, offshore oil and gas production, security and defense, port infrastructure, maritime transport, the naval industry, the extraction of minerals from the sea, in addition to nautical and coastal tourism, which unfolds in the regional culture linked to the sea, such as music, painting, literature and cuisine.

“The purpose of the Technological-Naval Cluster is to consolidate cooperation and contribute to the development of economic activities related to the Sea, to establish a prosperous economy for the region in which it operates, beneficial to its members and to society”, added Admiral Edesio.
