The Minister of Defense, José Mucio Monteiro Filho, received this Wednesday (15), a courtesy visit from the UN Agency for Refugees (UNHCR) in Brazil. The meeting was also attended by the Chief of Strategic Affairs (CAE), Lieutenant-Brigadier Hudson Costa Potiguara and the Deputy Chief of International Affairs (SCAI), Brigadier Marcelo Lobão Schiavo.

During the meeting, at the Department’s headquarters, UNHCR’s representative, Davide Torzilli, praised the work done in Operation Acolhida. The action of the Federal Government, which guarantees humanitarian assistance to Venezuelan migrants, has the logistical support of the Armed Forces (AF).

Currently, about 540 Navy, Army and Air Force personnel are working to help Venezuelans who arrive in the country. There are seven shelters that receive about 8 thousand people. During the meeting, subjects related to the migratory movement, partnerships and future projects were also discussed.
