Solemn Session took place this Thursday (03/16)

On Thursday (03/16), in a solemn session held at the Superior Military Court (STM), located in Brasilia (DF), Air Lieutenant Brigadier Francisco Joseli Parente Camelo took office as President of the STM, and Minister José Coelho Ferreira took office as Vice-President.
At the ceremony, attended by the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Lieutenant-Brigadier Joseli highlighted the 45 years of his military life in the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), during which he held great positions.
“This ceremony made me remember the moment when I entered the Air Cadets Preparatory School, because there were several challenges and important functions to which I was assigned, but mainly the desire to be a military man. So, upon arriving here, I feel proud for the trust that was entrusted to me,” said Lieutenant Brigadier Joseli.
The now President of the STM also remembered his work at the Court and highlighted the importance of Juridical Security and Military Justice for the maintenance of sovereignty, thus affirming that he assumes the presidency of the Organ with the same emotion as at the beginning of his career. “The performance of the Military Justice of the Union is part of a joint effort for the firm reaffirmation of our democracy. Brazil is a country that struggles to be great, so we must fight to strengthen the values of solidarity, empathy, and commitment to the poorest,” he concluded.
STM Minister, Air Lieutenant Brigadier Carlos Vuyk de Aquino greeted the inductees and pointed out that now the Court adds another page of salutary importance in these 215 years of the Court’s history. “I register the honor of formulating this greeting. His inauguration reverts to the very simple connotations that brought him to the presidency of this Court. Because of your aeronautical training, you know how to overcome the resistance of the air, so, deal with the natural turbulences as you have always done: with firm hands on the handle, and act with the assertiveness of who knows the Union Military Justice”, he said.
The solemnity was also attended by the president of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Minister Rosa Weber; the President of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Minister Alexandre de Moraes; and the President of the Federal Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco. The event was also attended by the Armed Forces Commanders Fleet Admiral Marcos Sampaio Olsen; Army General Tomás Miguel Miné Ribeiro Paiva and Air Lieutenant Brigadier Marcelo Kanitz Damasceno, as well as the Armed Forces Joint Chief of Staff, Fleet Admiral Renato Rodrigues de Aguiar Freire.

An enlisted man on March 1, 1969, he was declared Officer in December, 1975. During his military career, he was commander of the Salvador Air Base (BASV); Defense and Aeronautics Attaché at the Brazilian Embassy in Argentina; Chief Advisor for Aeronautics Matters at the Military Sub-head of the Institutional Security Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic, and Secretary of Coordination and Military Advisory of the Institutional Security Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic. In STM, he served for eight years as Minister, until reaching the highest position as President of the Superior Military Court.
