The event brought together 15,500 public and corporate security professionals, 69 delegations from 35 countries and more than 100 exhibiting brands in São Paulo. This is the main event for technology and innovation in equipment and services. The next edition is LAAD Defence & Security, from April 1 to 4, 2025, at Rio Centro, in Rio de Janeiro.

(DEFESANet) The 5th edition of LAAD Security & Defense ended yesterday, April 4, with positive results in terms of visitors and turnover. The event brought together more than 100 exhibiting companies from 12 countries in the public security, private security and defense sectors at the Transamerica Expo Center in São Paulo. According to the organizers, the event welcomed 15,500 professionals, who visited over the three days.

A ‘sister’ event to LAAD Defence & Security, held biennially in Rio de Janeiro in the odd-numbered years, LAAD Security & Defence returned to the São Paulo capital in the even-numbered years after a five-year break due to the pandemic. Focusing on the security and defense sector, it brings together Brazilian and international companies dedicated to developing solutions in technologies, equipment and services for Public Security, Police Forces, Special Forces, Armed Forces, Law Enforcement, Homeland Security and Security Managers of Large Corporations, Service Concessionaires and Critical Infrastructure in Brazil and Latin America.

The fair offered an opportunity to connect exhibiting companies with qualified visitors, international delegations and public security and defense authorities. “In addition to the more than 100 exhibiting brands and an extremely qualified visiting public, we welcomed 69 delegations from 35 countries. These delegations came to the country to explore business opportunities with world-class suppliers,” says Sergio Jardim, general director of Creative Events, the company organizing the event. According to him, around 650 meetings were held between exhibiting companies and official delegations.

The event was attended by a number of public authorities from the security sector, such as São Paulo’s Municipal Secretary for Urban Security, Elza Paulina de Souza, who took part in the event’s opening ceremony, during which she mentioned the “Smart Sampa” project, which should have 20,000 cameras by the end of the year, and its characteristic of being an integrating platform for the various security systems in São Paulo, as well as the innovative use of drones to monitor events and risk areas. “I’m very honored to be at LAAD and to say that the city of São Paulo is committed to security,” added Elza.

The Ministry of Justice’s National Secretary for Public Security, Mario Luiz Sarrubbo, stressed the importance of holding an event like LAAD in the current global and Brazilian context, where criminal organizations and urban violence are on the rise, “a fact that requires investment and integration of state forces”. Sarrubbo also stressed the importance of dialogue with the police and armed forces to tackle organized crime and investment in technology and equipment. “It’s a trade fair that interests the public security sector to learn about new technologies and security to promote citizenship in Brazil. Private companies and public authorities to build a better Brazil,” concluded the secretary.

The executive secretary of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Luís Manuel Rebelo Fernandes, stressed that the return of LAAD to the city of São Paulo also signals “the return of the security and defense binomial as an axis of development and the right to security and life in Brazil”. For him, this “is an important integration, because the areas of security and defense, and the national capacity for security products, are central pillars of the new Brazilian industrial policy,” added Fernandes.

The executive director of ABIMDE (Brazilian Association of Defense and Security Materials Industries), Colonel Armando Lemos, described LAAD Security & Defence as very positive. “ABIMDE’s participation was extremely productive, as it made it possible to discuss the new regulatory environment for certifying products for the public security area, which is also a step forward for Brazil. The country is also positioning itself in the same global standards for security products. In addition, it has allowed us to reinforce to public security bodies the importance and potential of the national industry,” he said.

Lemos also commented that it was possible to have greater interaction with the National Secretariat for Public Security about ABIMDE’s certification division. “This is a certification division accredited by INMETRO. The staff of the certification committee had contact with the police who are acquiring new materials, seeking quality standards for these materials and the National Secretariat for Public Security has been encouraging the standardization of products by creating new standards. The event organizers are to be congratulated, especially Sergio Jardim, director of Creative Events, for our partnership with ABIMDE and the national industry,” he said.

Launch

A launch related to emergency care was highlighted at LAAD Security & Defense. It is the It Clamp, an innovative solution for controlling bleeding.

Exclusively represented in Brazil by Allos Soluções em Saúde, the It Clamp was developed by Innovative Trauma Care, in the United States, initially for use in craniomaxillofacial injuries, but has also proved to be very effective in limb injuries. The polycarbonate device is a Clamp, with stainless steel fasteners, which bring the edges of the wound closer together, controlling bleeding so that the victim can be moved more safely to the appropriate help.

The single-use device is used for Tactical APH, Civil APH, Remote Sites, among others.

“The fair was excellent. The launch was very well received because there is nothing similar on the Brazilian market with the benefits that the It Clamp offers. We had meetings with the armed forces, police forces, CACs and other professionals in the area, meaning that the entire security segment can benefit from the It Clamp,” said Dr. Rodrigo Carvalho, Medical Consultant in the Military Tactical area and partner at Allos. The company will participate in the next edition of LAAD Defence & Security in Rio de Janeiro, in 2025, with more launches.

In the 2023 edition of LAAD Defence & Security, the fair brought together companies from 44 countries in Rio de Janeiro, represented by 364 brands supplying equipment, services and technologies from 20 segments of the defense and security industry. The event was also attended by 192 official delegations from 71 countries and recorded the presence of around 40,000 visitors.
