National Union of Defense Material Industries signs Memorandum of Understanding between Brazil and Le Groupement des Industries de Construction et Activités Navales, France

The National Union of Defense Materials Industries – SIMDE – and Le Groupement des Industries de Construction et Activités Navales – GICAN signed, at the Brazilian entity’s booth at LAAD, on Tuesday, April 11th, a Memorandum of Understanding for mutual cooperation.

The agreement aims to establish a framework for cooperation between the parties, focusing on the naval and defense industry. GICAN and SIMDE are professional groups representing the naval and defense industry sector of their respective countries. Seven French parliamentarians shared in the ceremony, including two senators.

The parties agree to promote mutually beneficial cooperation in the areas of industrial production, maintenance, design, and engineering in the sectors of international trade and industrial policy.

The MoU states that the parties will organize high-level seminars, at which GICAN and SIMDE leaders will meet regularly, in order to monitor and initiate cooperation in defense areas.

The agreement also provides for the exchange of information on French, Brazilian, European and international regulations concerning the production and exchange of defense equipment and know-how, as well as the promotion of joint forums, scientific symposia, conferences and seminars on international trade issues.

In addition, the parties undertake to promote the development of a common framework to enable increased cooperative activity and trade between French and Brazilian companies in the defense supply chain, including SMEs. GICAN and SIMDE members will also promote the establishment of a direct dialogue bringing together the economic potential of the French and Brazilian defense industries on topics of cooperation.
