Engineering Education for the Future will last three days and will be open to the public

Between May 16 and 18, the Technological Institute of Aeronautics (ITA), located on the campus of the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology (DCTA) in São José dos Campos (SP), will hold the second edition of Engineering Education for the Future (EEF), an event focused on discussing the role of engineering in national economic progress and how education, updated to the new needs of society, contributes to the process of innovation in Brazilian industry. The activities will be free and registrations can be made on the event’s website, starting in April.

This year’s EEF will feature discussions on current issues related to technology and development, with rounds of debates on learning processes and the role of public authorities in advancing quality education, for example. In addition, pre-registered students from universities across the country will take part in three competitions: the ITA Challenge, with the aim of spreading the culture of entrepreneurship and innovation in the academic community; the Innovation Grand Prix, to develop multidisciplinary teams’ ability to respond to problems; and the Data Science Challenge, a hackathon that will evaluate the best solution to a suggested challenge.

There will also be the “ITA 2050 Showcase”, an exhibition on the potential of projects carried out by students, professors and researchers from ITA and other DCTA institutes. For the Rector of ITA, Professor Antonio Guilherme de Arruda Lorenzi, EEF-2024 is the opportunity to “discuss at a high level the importance of the triple helix, with the integration of government, academia and industry, a key element for economic growth and social development based on knowledge”.

The event’s general coordinator, Professor Mauri Aparecido de Oliveira, points out that EEF-2024 makes it possible to connect engineering students from all over the country, as well as the industry of the future, with issues that challenge the next generations and with emerging processes that affect professionals in this field. “With the evolution of these demands, both from the market and from society, EEF-2024 becomes an ideal environment for discussing educational strategies that meet these dynamic needs,” he added.

The event will be completely free and open to students, researchers, entrepreneurs and enthusiasts from all over the country.

History

Five years on from its last edition, ITA continues to seek synergies and excellent solutions to the educational challenges that arise. Since its first edition, Engineering Education for the Future has become a benchmark for discussions on the current state of engineering education in Brazil and the strategies that can be put forward in the face of the impacts of technology and entrepreneurship. Considering the pursuit of national economic growth and greater competitiveness in industry, it is necessary to provide high-quality training for the engineers who will be made available to the job market, with an emphasis on the innovative capacity of these professionals.

In 2019, around 1,300 visitors attended the event, a figure that should be exceeded this year. Once again, partner companies will sponsor the activities, such as Mac Jee, located in Vale do Paraíba, São Paulo, and responsible for developing new technologies and manufacturing products for the Defense Industry. “To ensure innovation and safety in all our deliveries, we need highly qualified professionals and, today, ITA is undoubtedly the center of excellence that best supports us, with professionals with solid technical training, critical vision and resilience,” says Alessandra Stefani, CEO of Mac Jee, also stating that the partnership will contribute to the development of the company, ITA and the entire Defense Industrial Base (BID).

The association of Iteans, ITAEx, is supporting the initiative. “We hope to have a larger audience of students, with the aim of enriching the discussions and contributing to the progress of engineering education at ITA and in the country,” said the president, Aurélio Rossi.

About ITA – public higher education institution of the Aeronautics Command and center of excellence with undergraduate and postgraduate courses in areas related to Engineering.

About ITAEx – a non-profit association created by former students in 2016. In eight years, it has already invested R$11 million (donations raised by the alumni community) in actions to support teaching at ITA.
