In compliance with the Infantry Officer Training Course (CFOInf) program at the Air Force Academy, based in Pirassununga (SP), the Airborne Operations (OPAM) course was held from 06 to 10/11.

Aimed at fourth-year Infantry Cadets of the Air Force Cadet Corps (CCAER), the course involved a series of teaching activities pertinent to learning the techniques and procedures of Air Force Infantry troops in the context of infiltration and exfiltration of airplanes, such as: Assault Landing in strategic locations with rapid disembarkation, Rappelling, McGuire – an exercise in which the soldiers descend from the aircraft and are then suspended vertically from the helicopter by ropes – and Helocasting – which also takes place in mid-flight and is characterized by a troop infiltration manoeuvre in a water environment.

The course instructor, Infantry Captain Arionaldo Paulo da Silva Neto, emphasized the importance of Aeromobile Operations in the Air Force Infantry scenario. “It’s a very complex mission, something inherent to the military environment, and it certainly contributed to professional growth. The cadets were able to work on the issue of adaptability, overcoming challenges and they completed the activity with flying colors, in a brilliant and very meaningful way,” he said. The instructor of the OPAM course, Administration Specialist Sergeant Alexandre Maia do Nascimento Júnior, highlighted the gratification of being able to contribute the knowledge he has acquired throughout his career to the training of future Infantry leaders. “It’s a privilege to be able to take part in their training and see them overcome their limits after each practice,” he said.

For the Infantry leader of the Air Force Cadet Corps, Cadet Lucas Kenji Ando Lacerda, it was a great experience to have taken part in OPAM. “The operation allowed us to get to know and understand this very important air force vector, which is rotary-wing aircraft. Participating in this activity brought intellectual, technical and operational gains and, with this, the possibilities that we can have and do to expand and perfect aeromobile operations in conjunction with the Infantry,” he said.

Infiltrating and exfiltrating aircraft quickly and safely is essential for carrying out operations in areas that are difficult to access. The training thus contributes to the cadets’ education, enabling future officers to act in the most adverse scenarios.
