The Industrial Development and Coordination Institute (IFI), through the Industrial Development Division (CDI), promoted on June 20, at the Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica (ITA), the II Seminar on Aerospace Industry Development: Alternatives for Aerospace Industry Development and Coordination. The seminar, part of the Introduction to Compensation Agreements Course (CIAC), held at the IFI from June 19 to 23, was attended by more than 200 people and aimed to unite the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), the Aerospace Industry organizations and academic institutions in the search for more alternatives for the promotion of the industry.

The Director General of the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology (DCTA), Air Lieutenant Brigadier Maurício Augusto Silveira de Medeiros, opened the event and highlighted the relevance of the aerospace industry in the country. “Approximately 60% of the Strategic Defense Companies [EED] operate in the aerospace sector, and 25% of all EEDs are companies exclusive to the aerospace segment.” This was followed by the Launching Ceremony of the Integrated System for Aerospace Industry Development (SIFIAer), a management information system developed by IFI, which registers aerospace and defense companies with their technological and industrial capabilities.

The Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force (EMAER), Air Major Valter Borges Malta, gave a lecture about the role of the Air Force in the promotion of the Brazilian aerospace industry. The Executive President of the Brazilian Defense and Security Industries Association (ABIMDE), Division General Aderico Visconte Pardi Mattioli, gave a lecture on “The Importance of Understanding the Technological and Industrial Capabilities and Needs of the Defense Industrial Base.

In the afternoon, work resumed with the lecture “Mapping the Capabilities of the Brazilian Aerospace Industry”, given by the Coordinator of the Pro-Defense IV Study Group of the Ministry of Defense (MD) and the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes), Doctor Marcos José Barbieri Ferreira. Next, the DCTA’s Deputy Coordinator for Innovation Management (CGI), Lieutenant Colonel Breno Ricardo de Araújo Leite, made a brief presentation on the process of technology transfer to the Defense Industrial Base.

The organizer of the II Aerospace Industry Fostering Seminar, Chief of the IFI’s CDI, Air Captain Daniel Jorge, recalled the Institute’s importance in the very search for technological innovation in the industry. “Through the IFI and DCTA, we seek to stimulate the development of the Brazilian Aerospace Industry, an important partner in the search for technological innovation of the Defense Industrial Base,” he concluded.

IFI and Aerospace Industry

The IFI, representing DCTA and FAB, has established over time a relationship of partnership and promotion of the Brazilian Aerospace Industry. By stimulating the development of this sector, the Institute has provided an essential service to the country. “Within FAB programs, the IFI’s work ensures that products are obtained according to the requirements outlined by the Aeronautics Command. Regarding the promotion of the industry, it is the IFI that guides the whole quality part of the products presented by the national industry, strengthening even more the capacity of this segment,” commented Major Brigadier Malta.
