Among the activities being carried out during Operation Unitas LXIV-2023, the frigate Defensora participated in the Multinational Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Support Exercise Solidarex-2023. The 3rd edition of the exercise, which takes place every two years, was held from July 8 to 10, in the Gulf of Morrisquillo, near the city of Coveñas, Colombia; and was attended by observer officers from Spain and the United States of America, as well as 12 ships from the following countries: Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama and Peru.

The purpose of the exercise was to enable an adequate and immediate response to natural disasters of great magnitude on the coast of the Caribbean Sea, by strengthening the interoperability of a Multinational Task Force.

The Combat Diver Detachment embarked on the “Defensora” acted in coordination and beach access channel cleaning actions, in order to allow the docking of vessels for the disembarkation of USAR (Urban Search and Rescue) teams, specialized in the rescue and salvage of affected victims in urban areas.

Operation “Unitas LXIV-2023”

The commission began on Tuesday (11) and will continue until the 25th of this month. “Unitas” is the oldest multinational maritime exercise organized by the Americans, since 1960, and aims to test and improve interoperability between the navies of the 18 countries participating in this edition. Then, the frigate “Defensora” will participate in Operation “Camex Delta Amazonas”, at the mouth of the Amazon River, where it will carry out operations and naval warfare actions, aiming at controlling the maritime area of that region.
