Hearing the sound of the engine and the whirring of the five propeller blades and imagining yourself flying an A-29 Super Tucano. This is the sensation that visitors to the Armed Forces Exhibition are experiencing in the two simulators of this fighter aircraft. New attractions at this year’s Homeland Week in Brasília (DF), the technological devices allow the public to interactively feel a mixture of sensations by imagining themselves piloting this aircraft.

The exhibition set up on the Esplanade of Ministries showcases the activities and strategic programs developed by the Brazilian Navy (MB), the Brazilian Army (EB) and the Brazilian Air Force (FAB). Open to the public since September 7 after the traditional parade, the exhibition runs until September 10, from 9am to 5pm.

Among military equipment and interactive screens, the FAB is present with the H-36 Caracal helicopters, from the First Squadron of the Eighth Aviation Group (1º/8º GAV) – Falcon Squadron, the H-60 Black Hawk, from the Seventh Squadron of the Eighth Aviation Group (7º/8º GAV) – Harpy Squadron and the RQ-1150 aircraft, from the First Squadron of the Seventh Aviation Group (1º/7º GAV) – Orungan Squadron.

Also on display are aerospace sensors, equipment used in airspace control, security and defense materials, radars and a life-size replica of the F-39 Gripen, the VSB-30 rocket and satellites from the Technological Institute of Aeronautics (ITA).

“This is another beautiful moment for us to interact with civilian and military society in such a special year, when we celebrate Santos Dumont’s 150th birthday. I invite you all to be here over the next few days,” said the Commander of the Air Force, Air Brigadier Marcelo Kanitz Damasceno.

“This is a unique experience for both adults and children. The important thing is to pass on this civic example to them, the love of country and the Armed Forces, as well as presenting equipment and aircraft,” said app driver Claudio Gomes Peixoto.

“It was really cool! I thought I was flying for real,” said student Ana Luisa Barbosa Santos enthusiastically after going through the simulator of the A-29 Super Tucano fighter.

At the Santos Dumont stand, the Demoiselle replica and around thirty panels offer a unique perspective on the life, works and values of the Father of Aviation. “The exhibition is incredible, I didn’t know a lot of the data here. It’s very important to show the evolution of the airplane and the importance of Santos Dumont to the history of our country,” said housewife Anne Kellen Basilio Ribeiro.

Children’s program

The program also includes a special area for children, with recreational workshops by Turma do Fabinho and a toy in the shape of the F-5 fighter aircraft. At the opening of the exhibition, the presence of the mascots Dumontzinho and Fabinho brought even more fun to the public.
