The military ceremony to hand over the position of Commander of the Fourth Regional Air Command (IV COMAR) was held this Friday (02/24), in São Paulo (SP). Air Major Alan Elvis de Lima passed the command of IV COMAR to Air Brigadier Luiz Cláudio Macedo Santos. The ceremony was presided by the Aeronautics Commander, Air Lieutenant Brigadier Marcelo Kanitz Damasceno, accompanied by the Preparations Commander, Air Lieutenant Brigadier Sergio Roberto de Almeida.

The Air Force Commander, Air Lieutenant Brigadier Damasceno, praised the achievements of the replaced Commander, and wished the replacement Commander a warm welcome. “Major Brigadier Elvis is now leaving active duty. He was a test pilot, recognized as one of the most famous rotary wing pilots. Brigadier Macedo comes from the operational area, being a fighter pilot, with much knowledge in this activity. He has worked in the Ministry of Defense and has ample capacity to be in command of IV COMAR”, he highlighted.

In the occasion, while saying goodbye to his function and active service, Air Major Elvis thanked everyone who helped him fulfill his noble mission in the Brazilian Air Force (FAB). “The Air Force is more than an institution, more than a profession. The things that I was able to help, to build, were due to opportunities that the FAB gave me and that I tried to repay with the best of my work. In these 36 years of service, I witnessed what this institution can contribute to society,” he said.

The new commander of IV COMAR, Air Brigadier Macedo, spoke of his expectations for the challenge ahead.  “It is a great honor and privilege to be able to command the Fourth Regional Air Command in São Paulo, which is the economic heart of our country, extending also to Mato Grosso do Sul. We expect a lot of work, a lot of interaction with society and to accomplish the mission to which we were assigned”, he concluded.  

The event was also attended by the General Support Commander of the Air Force, Air Lieutenant Brigadier Pedro Luís Farcic; the General Director of the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology, Air Lieutenant Brigadier Maurício Augusto Silveira de Medeiros; the Director of Strategic Affairs of FIESP’s Presidency, Air Lieutenant Brigadier Aprígio Eduardo de Moura Azevedo, among other military and civil authorities. 

New Commander

Brigadier Macedo was born in Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and joined the Air Force on February 1st, 1985. He has 3,500 flight hours, with more than 2,970 hours in fighter aviation, seven national decorations and one international one. The General Officer was promoted to his current rank on March 31, 2020.
