Between March 8 and 10, the Air Demonstration Squadron (EDA), known as the Fumaça (Smoke) Squadron, gave a series of presentations in cities in the state of Pernambuco. The schedule began on March 8, in the municipality of Afrânio, passing through Serra Talhada, on March 9, and Recife, on March 10, being one of the attractions scheduled for the celebrations of the anniversary of the capital of Pernambuco, which turned 487 on March 12. On that occasion, thousands of people filled Marco Zero Square and cheered every maneuver performed by the seven A-29 Super Tucano aircraft.

The Mayor of Recife, João Campos, spoke about the EDA presentation. “This beautiful presentation by the pilots of the Esquadrilha da Fumaça, representing the Brazilian Air Force, with their impressive maneuvers and soaring flights, further brightened our celebrations on the occasion of the city’s anniversary and rounded off our weekend’s festive program in style,” he commented.

Paratrooper launch

Also in celebration of the 487th anniversary of the city of Recife, on March 10, a C-95 Bandeirante aircraft operated by the First Squadron of the Fifth Aviation Group (1°/5° GAV) – Rumba Squadron, based at the Natal Air Base (BANT), supported the presentation by the “Os Cometas” team, from the Parachute Infantry Brigade (Bda Inf Pqd) of the Brazilian Army (EB). Under the watchful eyes of the audience, the FAB plane launched a team made up of eight military paratroopers, who performed a demonstration jump with maneuvers and evolutions.

At the end of the week, the Esquadrilha da Fumaça will head to the city of Caruaru, in the interior of Pernambuco, where it will conclude its cycle of performances in the state.
