The Annual Meeting of Military Air Operations Controllers (RACOAM), promoted by the Aerospace Operations Command (COMAE) and the Department of Airspace Control (DECEA) began on Monday (07/31) and continues until 07/04. The training is being held at the Airspace Control Institute (ICEA), in São José dos Campos, in the interior of São Paulo (SP).

Participating in the exercise are the Military Operations Centers (COpM) of the Four Integrated Air Defense and Air Traffic Control Centers (CINDACTA I, II, III and IV); the First Communications and Control Group (1º GCC) with its Squadrons and the Second of the Sixth Aviation Group (2º/6º GAV) – Guardian Squadron.

The opening ceremony was chaired by the Director General of the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology (DCTA), Air Lieutenant Brigadier Mauricio Augusto Silveira de Medeiros, accompanied by the Director General of DECEA, Air Lieutenant Brigadier Alcides Teixeira Barbacovi, being received by the Director of ICEA, Colonel Aviator Plínio da Silva Becker. Also present at the event was the Chief of the Joint Staff of the Aerospace Operations Command, Major General Vincent Dang.

In his remarks, General Barbacovi highlighted the importance of RACOAM. “It is a privilege as Director General of DECEA to be at the head of this exercise. One of the objectives is to train so that we are always ready to employ the necessary means. We will show how capable and effective we are in the surveillance activity of Brazilian airspace”, said the General Officer.

Highlighting the exercise’s relevance to air defense, Lieutenant General Medeiros congratulated service members on the activity and wished them success at the event.

The meeting plans to seek the continuous improvement and training of operators of the Military Air Operations Control Bodies (OCOAM), in addition to evaluating the performance of the bodies, knowledge, and the correct use of techniques and tactics in fulfilling the mission of maintaining the sovereignty of Brazilian airspace.

During the program, service members participate in operational exercises, conflict training and flight simulation, an intellectual marathon, a sports competition, and a symposium on operational doctrine, military capabilities of the LP23NG radar, and Link BR2.
