Since October 30, the Canoas Air Base (BACO) has been hosting the 2023 Tactical Precision Shooting Course (CTTP), also known as the Sniper course. The opening ceremony was attended by the Commander of the BACO Operational Group, Lieutenant Colonel João Paulo Gomez Lima da Silva. CTTP 2023 represents an important collaboration between various security forces, including the Canoas Security and Defense Group (GSD-CO), the Civil Police, the Criminal Police and the Federal Highway Police.

The course is taught by qualified instructors, including experienced snipers and precision tactics experts from the GSD-CO. Participants cover skills and are trained from the safe handling of long-range weapons to making quick and accurate decisions in high-stress situations.

The Tactical Sniper must know and apply concepts of internal, external and terminal ballistics, paying attention to factors that directly influence shooting such as wind, air resistance, temperature, atmospheric pressure, among others. They must also have efficient individual and equipment camouflage, making them indistinguishable from their surroundings and avoiding giving away their position to the enemy.

Marco Antonio Duarte de Souza, Police Chief and Director of the Special Operations Group of the Rio Grande do Sul Civil Police, who is also a CTTP 2023 student, emphasizes the importance of the course. “The Precision Tactical Shooting Course is very important for learning, as it is totally different from police combat, which is resolved in less than three meters with a fraction of three seconds. With this course, the FAB is helping the police forces to acquire fundamental skills in the fight against Brazilian crime,” he said.

The CTTP 2023 is an example of collaboration between the security forces in favor of a common mission: protecting society and maintaining public order. As the training progresses, the professionals involved are expected to improve their skills, strengthen their collaboration networks and be even better prepared to face complex challenges in the future.

The course is scheduled to conclude on 24/11, when the participants will be awarded certificates, recognizing the effort and dedication of all those involved. This event represents a significant step forward for security not only in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, but throughout Brazil.
