On October 25, a symposium was held in London, United Kingdom, to discuss strategic trends in Defense. The Brazilian representative was the Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategy, Rear Admiral José Cláudio Oliveira Macedo. One of the results of this symposium will be the launch, in March 2024, of the 7th edition of the publication Global Strategic Trends (GST), considered a world reference in studies and debates in the area of Defense, highlighting prospective global, regional and thematic scenarios.

The symposium, entitled Findings and Insights Symposium, was promoted by the UK Ministry of Defense’s Development, Concepts and Doctrine Centre (DCDC). The purpose is to present an overview of the main conclusions and analyses produced for the GST. This is an important global reference for studies and debates in the area of Defense.

“The event proved to be productive, as it presented trends for the future and relevant defense aspects to be considered in the preparation of Force Planning. It was also an opportunity to reaffirm the MB’s and DCDC’s interest in expanding their existing partnership, which has borne mutual fruit,” said Rear Admiral José Cláudio.

Also attending the event, representing Brazil, were Sea and War Captain Sergio Eduardo Fernandes Luiz, Brazil’s Defense and Naval Attaché to the United Kingdom and Norway; Professor Vinícius Mariano de Carvalho, Vice-Dean and Professor of Social Sciences and Public Policy at King’s College London and collaborator of the Brazilian Naval War College; and Frigate Captain Juarez Cerqueira Ferreira, an MB officer on exchange at the DCDC.
