Knowledge of the Maritime Task Force in the context of a Peace Operation was disseminated

Between August 14 and 18, the Naval Peace Operations Center (COpPazNav) conducted the face-to-face phase of the United Nations Maritime Task Force International Course, at the Almirante Sylvio de Camargo Instruction Center (CIASC). The course, which is in its fifth edition, is taught in English to officers from the Brazilian Navy (MB) and friendly nations, with the aim of disseminating the knowledge needed by a General Staff Officer in a Maritime Task Force, in the context of a Peace Operation under the aegis of the UN.
In addition to MB officers, the class includes twelve foreign officers from the following countries: Germany, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Chile, China, Ecuador, Greece, Jordan, Mozambique and Tunisia. The presence of military personnel from Latin America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia characterizes a culturally and militarily diverse environment.
“The Maritime Task Force course is part of a huge legacy left by MB during the ten years it has participated in UNIFIL [the UN Interim Force in Lebanon], since the Navy not only made up the international working group responsible for drawing up the course, but was also invested with the leadership of the group. The foreign students have the unique opportunity of receiving the course content directly from its author,” explained the head of COpPazNav, Frigate Captain Tarick Turidu da Silva Nunes Taets.
The final activity is a scenario-based exercise in which students are divided into working groups and, based on the concepts they have learned, reproduce actions typical of a General Staff. The activity provides experience in planning and presenting solutions to situations related to the mandate of a UN Peace Operation carried out in a maritime environment.
