On Tuesday (09), the deployment of the Marines Rapid Reaction Peacekeeping Force Operational Group took place in the region of São José da Barra, near the Furnas hydroelectric company’s dam in southern Minas Gerais. This group can be used as a QRF (Quick Reaction Force), which is a rapid reaction force at level 3 of the United Nations Peacekeeping Capability Readiness System, the highest level ever reached by a Brazilian state troop.

The operation has 223 soldiers, 22 of them women, in accordance with the United Nations recommendations. The troops also have specific materials and training that ensure the maintenance of their expeditionary nature and readiness for deployment. The QRF takes advantage of the natural characteristics of the Furnas Dam region to improve its ability to operate in lakes and rivers, carrying out river patrols.

The training of the QRF, which began on March 6, with the training of its capabilities, in the Naval Complex on Ilha do Governador, in Rio de Janeiro, followed a crescendo of training and instructions, conducted by the Naval Peace Operations Center, and culminated with the current exercise, which takes place in the “Mar de Minas” region until May 12.
