The Minister of Defense, José Mucio, traveled this Wednesday (9), to Formosa, in Goiás, in the company of the Commander of the Brazilian Navy, Admiral Marcos Sampaio Olsen, to follow the initial actions of investigation of the accident that occurred with a Naval Force aircraft, on Tuesday (8). According to the Navy, a preliminary report should be completed within 180 days.

The UH-15 Super Cougar helicopter carried 14 military personnel, 12 of whom survived.  Of the total injured, 10 had minor injuries and two will undergo orthopedic surgery. Sergeants Luís Fernando Tavares Augusto and Renan Guedes Moura died at the time of the accident. At the health facilities at the site of the operation, the Minister expressed his solidarity with the survivors. “I would like to greet you, I am happy that you are here, alive. I thank you for your commitment and dedication to the country and I am sorry for the loss of the other comrades,” Mucio said. 

Operation Formosa

The training conducted by the Brazilian Navy began on August 4 at the Formosa Training Camp, with the objective of training military personnel from the three Armed Forces in the joint use of support weapons, tactical maneuvers, artillery fires and air operations. This operation has been taking place since 1988 and is considered the Navy’s largest in the Central Plateau. This year, more than 3,500 service members are participating in the operation, which uses combat vehicles, armored vehicles, Amphibious Caterpillar Trucks (CLAnf), airplanes, helicopters, artillery howitzers, and ASTROS Multiple Rocket Launchers.
