Brazilian Army completes transportation of vehicles and weapons to the border with Venezuela

Boa Vista (RR) – The Brazilian Army has completed the transport of vehicles and weapons to reinforce the defense of the country’s northern border. On Saturday 10th, the Amazon Military Command (CMA*) wrapped up the activities of Operation Roraima, a major logistical mobilization that involved units from the south to the north of the country to transport the materials to the 1st Jungle Infantry Brigade in Boa Vista.

The effort is part of the transformation of the Boa Vista Mechanized Cavalry Squadron into a Mechanized Cavalry Regiment. After the change, scheduled for 2025, the Squadron will have three Fleets and a staff of around 600 soldiers. The initiative is in line with the Army’s Strategic Plan, which aims to increase the number of troops in the Northern Military Command and the Amazon Military Command by 10%.

The Brigade was reinforced with 4×4 Guaicurus Multitask Armored Vehicles (VBMT*); Medium Wheeled Armored Personnel Carriers (VBTP-MR*); EE-9 Cascavel Medium Wheeled Reconnaissance Armored Vehicles (VBR-MSR*); 1.2 Anti-Tank Surface-to-Surface Missiles (MSS 1.2 AC*) and administrative vehicles.

Operation Roraima

The transportation of weapons and military equipment began at the end of last year, when the Amazon Military Command received the first materials by river. On that occasion, 33 vehicles were moved, totaling 50 tons.

In January, dozens of combat vehicles were moved from the Western Military Command to Roraima in three marching units. The journey totaled 2,100 kilometers overland to the Amazon Military Command’s Vessel Center, from where the convoy continued by river.

Dozens of 1.2 Anti-tank Surface-to-Surface Missiles (MSS 1.2 AC) were also moved. The purpose of the transfer is to add resources to the 18th Mechanized Cavalry Regiment, the newest unit of the Amazon Military Command.
