From this Monday (11/07), the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) conducts, in Rio Grande do Sul (RS), the Joint Exercise (EXCON) Shield-Tinia 2022, an operational activity coordinated by the Preparedness Command (COMPREP) and Aerospace Operations Command (COMAE) and conducted by the Canoas Air Base (BACO).

The air and ground activities take place in the Canoas (BACO) and Santa Maria (BASM) Air Bases, as well as in the city of Santana da Boa Vista (RS). In all, more than 800 military personnel from the Brazilian Navy (MB), Brazilian Army (EB) and from FAB Units all over the country are participating in the training, with more than 50 aircraft from the Fighter, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (IVR), Rotary Wings and Transport Aviation Units.

EXCON Escudo-Tínia aims at the doctrinal consolidation of composite air missions, the training and qualification of the participants in facing the challenges arising from the use of military power and complex military operations.

In this context, the conception and development of the exercise must provide the fulfillment of Air Force Actions in a fictitious and dynamic tactical scenario, simulating a regional conventional war conflict, against one country or an alliance of several countries.

The Commander of the Fifth Regional Air Command (V COMAR), Air Major-Brigadier Marcelo Fornasiari Rivero talks about the importance of the exercise. “The EXCON Escudo-Tínia, at the end of the year, is the crowning of all the work done by our bases and other Military Organizations that support them. We exercise not only the fulfillment of Air Force Actions, but, above all, our ability to support and sustain combat,” he concludes.

“The EXCON Escudo-Tínia 2022 allows training the Ministry of Defense’s military to act in various conflict situations, especially in the air and anti-aircraft scenario. The BACO and BASM host the exercise, which is held in a region that has the ideal conditions for training,” says the Director of the exercise, Air Force Colonel Marcelo Zampier Bussmann.

The participants will be trained in several Air Force Actions. In addition, technical training of Air Defense Units from the Brazilian Navy (MB), the Brazilian Army (EB) and the Air Force itself will take place.

In this joint scenario with the Brazilian Army and the Brazilian Navy, Air Defense, Enemy Air Defense Suppression and Airspace Surveillance and Control Actions will be coordinated.
