Leading electric propulsion and armored systems companies BAE Systems and Larsen & Toubro announce a strategic partnership to introduce the versatile BvS10 all-terrain vehicle to the Indian market, meeting the needs of the Indian Armed Forces.

BAE Systems, a leader in heavy-duty electric propulsion, and Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) announce a partnership aimed at introducing the renowned BvS10 all-terrain vehicle to the Indian market. The agreement, which includes licensing and manufacturing, aims to provide the Indian Armed Forces with a tailor-made Articulated All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) solution.

According to the terms of the contract, L&T will assume the position of main supplier in the Indian market, with the crucial support of BAE Systems Hägglunds, the Swedish manufacturer of the successful BvS10 family of vehicles. The joint project between BAE Systems and L&T resulted in the modernization of the BvS10 to meet the specific requirements of the Indian Armed Forces, giving rise to the new variant called the BvS10-Sindhu. The QT program aims to offer vehicles from L&T’s Armored Systems Complex, complemented by integrated logistics support (ILS).

“Our BvS10 all-terrain vehicle will demonstrate the essential capabilities the Indian Army needs during tests scheduled for later this month. Unmatched mobility, flexibility and the ability to operate in extreme weather conditions are core design elements of the BvS10,” said Tommy Gustafsson-Rask, Executive Chairman of BAE Systems Hägglunds. “This partnership with Larsen & Toubro gives us the opportunity to expand our presence in the Indo-Pacific market,” he added.

Larsen & Toubro sees this collaboration as a catalyst for the growth of its Armored Systems segment, supported by a solid manufacturing and design base, combined with BAE Systems’ experience. Arun Ramchandani, Executive Vice President and Director of L&T Defence, said: “The partnership between L&T and BAE Systems brings together our strengths to provide a solution that meets the expectations of the Indian Army. The BvS10-Sindhu is the ideal vehicle to tackle extremely challenging terrain and the climatic conditions in which it will be deployed.”

The BvS10 vehicle on display at DSEI in London this week stands out for having a short-range mobile air defense system (MSHORAD) configuration, illustrating the vehicle’s versatility. It has evolved into a modular combat vehicle capable of carrying a wide range of payloads, offering a response to virtually any threat in the modern operating environment, without compromising its armor.

The BvS10’s articulated mobility provides excellent maneuverability in varied terrain, including snow, ice, rock, sand, mud, swamps and steep mountain environments. In addition, its amphibious capability allows it to cross flooded areas and coastal waters. It is capable of transporting personnel, supplies and mounted lethality to face any threat in the modern operating environment.

The versatility of the modular design allows the BvS10 to be reconfigured for a variety of missions, including personnel transportation, command and control, ambulance service, vehicle repair and recovery, logistical support, situational awareness, as well as vehicle-mounted lethality and support weapons.

The vehicle is currently in service in Austria, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Ukraine and the United Kingdom, as well as being ordered by the German Army. BAE Systems’ unarmored Beowulf variant won the tender for the US Army’s Cold Weather All-Terrain Vehicle (CATV) program in August, with a contract to supply 110 vehicles over five years.
