In another integrated action involving the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) and the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA), an irregular aircraft was destroyed on 04/14, in the Air Defense Identification Zone (ZIDA – Zona de Identificação de Defesa Aérea) in the airspace of the Northern Region.

An FAB E-99 aircraft identified an aircraft flying irregularly in the region and an A-29 Super Tucano fighter, also from the FAB, was activated to carry out a Flight Alert mission. The fighter jet first performed a discreet follow-up, identifying its registration plate and confirming that it was an illicit flight. Still being monitored by the FAB aircraft, the plane landed in a mining area, took off and moved to another landing area.

During the whole action, a FAB H-36 Caracal helicopter was also deployed to transport the IBAMA agents to the last landing site, on an unapproved airstrip in Roraima (RR), where they destroyed the irregular airplane. The crew members fled before the agents arrived.

The mission, which takes place after the deactivation of legal air corridors in the Yanomami Indigenous Lands (TIY), was triggered by the Brazilian Air Force’s Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (IVR) actions.

Throughout Friday (04/14), only this irregular traffic was observed by the air defense control, demonstrating the effectiveness of the actions in the region. The Brazilian Air Force works daily to ensure the sovereignty of Brazilian airspace.
