Saab has received a purchase order from the Government of Canada for the RBS 70 NG short-range air defense system. The value of the purchase is approximately 227 million Canadian dollars (1.8 billion Swedish kronor), with deliveries starting in 2024.

The material to be purchased includes all the equipment needed to operate the RBS 70 NG, namely: firing stations, missiles, vehicles for transportation, training and support. Following a competitive procurement process, Saab’s offer was chosen to meet the urgent operational requirement of Canada’s Soldier Portable Air Defense System Program.

Through this program, Saab will provide long-term anti-aircraft defense support to the Canadian Armed Forces, with a specific focus on the Enhanced Forward Presence (EFP) program in Latvia As part of its offer, Saab has committed to developing local content through its office in Canada, as well as partners and suppliers established in that country.

“We are pleased to deliver our proven and efficient RBS 70 NG air defense solution, which is an essential capability for nations today,” said Saab President and CEO Micael Johansson.

The RBS 70 NG is a short-range anti-aircraft defense system manufactured by Saab. It is characterized by uninterrupted laser beam guidance of the missile and automatic target tracking technology. Saab has RBS 70 NG customers all over the world, including Brazil, the Czech Republic and Latvia.
