The Armed Forces’ joint operation, Operation Taquari, also extends to the southern region of Rio Grande do Sul and the state’s western border, where the rains have caused rivers to flood and left people homeless. More than 790 military from the Brazilian Navy, the Brazilian Army and the Brazilian Air Force are working in the municipalities of Cruzeiro do Sul, Lajeado, Roca Sales, Estrela and Encantado.

Troops from the Army troops are also rescuing and transporting homeless people in Pedro Osório, Jaguarão, Arroio Grande and Alegrete.

The Armed Forces are using their resources to support the work of the Civil Defense Defense in whatever way is necessary.

The Joint Command has been activated to integrate the actions of the three forces.

  • Cruzeiro do Sul, Lajeado, Roca Sales, Estrela and Encantado (Brazilian Navy);
  • Muçum, Cruzeiro do Sul, Montenegro, Santa Tereza, Roca Sales, Encantado, Vale do Rio Taquari, Santa Tereza, Arroio do Meio, Porto Alegre, Pedro Osório, Jaguarão, Arroio Grande, Alegrete and Venâncio Aires (Brazilian Army);
  • Lajeado (Brazilian Air Force).

Actions:

  • Search and rescue of victims; aeromedical evacuations; transportation of teams and homeless; sorting and delivery of clothes and donated food; distribution of drinking water;
    supplying food to firefighting teams in the field; setting up tents;
    clearing roads; damage control; medical support; installation of systems for
    internet communication systems.

Numbers:

  • 793 military personnel; 47 transport vehicles; 10 boats; 08 helicopters; 06 ambulances; 13 vehicles and engineering equipment; 25 tents; and 4 cisterns.
