Brazilian Navy exercise takes place in the maritime area between Rio de Janeiro and Salvador

With the aim of increasing the level of training and raising the readiness of ships, submarines and aircraft of the Brazilian Fleet, the Brazilian Navy (MB) began Operation “Tropicalex 2023” on Monday (18). The exercise will take place in the maritime area between Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and Salvador (BA) until the 29th of this month.

Various exercises and maneuvers will be carried out at sea, including naval warfare operations, such as surface, air, submarine, electronic warfare and cyber warfare, as well as Naval Patrol in the Blue Amazon.

“During Operation Tropicalex, exercises of greater complexity and intensity will be carried out, increasing the levels of training of the crews of our ships and aircraft in all the environments of modern warfare,” said Rear Admiral André Luiz de Andrade Felix, Commander of the 2nd Fleet Division, who is in charge of the Task Group commanding the Operation.

In this edition of “Tropicalex”, MB will use the Multipurpose Airfield Ship “Atlântico”, the Fleet Captain, the frigates “Constituição”, “Independência” and “União”, the submarines “Tikuna” and “Riachuelo”, as well as seven aircraft, two of which are AF-1 Skyhawk fixed-wing aircraft and five helicopters: two SH-16 Seahawk, one AH-15B Super Cougar, one AH-11B Wild Lynx and one UH-12 Esquilo. P-3AM aircraft from the Brazilian Air Force are also taking part.

The ships will dock at the port of Salvador (BA) and, on the 24th, will be open to the public from 9am to 4pm.
