Last Friday (16), military personnel from the Armed Forces and agents from IBAMA, who are participating in Operation Agata Northern Border, conducted an incursion in the region of upper Catrimani. The action included a Brazilian Air Force aircraft and military personnel from the Brazilian Navy, who gathered information about a clandestine airstrip in an indigenous area, contributing to the fight against illegal mining in the Yanomami Indigenous Land.

As a result of constant monitoring of the border strip, the clandestine airstrip was located 250 km from Boa Vista (RR) and 242 km from the mouth of the Catrimani river. The runway is approximately five soccer fields long and shows signs of being used by aircraft supporting mining activities. At the site, weapons were seized and fuel storage materials were incinerated to supply the miners’ aircraft.
