On August 15, the Commander of the Seventh Regional Air Command (VII COMAR), Major General David Almeida Alcoforado, gave the master class of the Specialization Course in Applied Public Management in Policy and Strategy Studies, offered by the Amazonas State University (UEA), in partnership with the Association of Graduates of the Amazonas War College (ADESG/AM). The event, held at the Amazonas State Court of Auditors (TCE-AM), had as its theme “Topics in world geopolitics and possible implications for the defense of the Brazilian Amazon”.

During the lecture, which was attended by civilian and military authorities from the Brazilian Navy (MB), the Brazilian Army (EB) and the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), the Amazonas Military Fire Brigade (CBMAM) and the Amazonas State Military Police (PMAM), Major Brigadier David addressed various topics, such as the relationship between human beings and the planet, the industrial and technological revolution, the international system and the defense of the Amazon. In his briefing, the Commander of VII COMAR also pointed out authors and works that are relevant to a historical understanding of geopolitics and its impact on the Amazon region, as well as presenting relevant economic data on the event’s theme. “We need public policies that favor sustainable development and contribute to the defense of the peoples of the Amazon. I believe that the students will leave the lecture with the impetus to seek more knowledge and propose new policies,” said the General Officer.

About the course

The Lato Sensu Postgraduate course in Applied Public Management in Policy and Strategy Studies is made up of 45 students, including civilians and military personnel from the Armed Forces, and aims to prepare Brazilian citizens, civilians and military personnel to exercise high-level management and advisory functions in the public and private sectors. The specialization also trains trainees to analyse conjunctures and project political and strategic scenarios, especially related to the Amazon region, considering economic, political, environmental, indigenous and agrarian aspects, among other issues related to regional development.
