T-27M flight simulators developed by CCA-SJ reach 1,000 hours of instruction at AFA

Air Force Agency – CCA-SJ, by Captain Martins

The flight simulators of the T-27M aircraft, baptized T-4000, developed by the Centro de Computação da Aeronáutica de São José dos Campos (CCA-SJ), have surpassed the significant mark of 1,000 flight hours, in less than 6 months, since they started operating in January 2023, at the Air Force Academy (AFA).

The Chief of CCA-SJ, Aviator Colonel Josemir Ribeiro Lima, expressed satisfaction with the simulator’s use. “The mark attests to the quality of the equipment, recognizing operational safety and resource savings for the Air Force, improving the training of pilots to face real challenges,” he pointed out.

With the support of the Information Technology Directorate, CCA-SJ has been specializing in the development of simulators. In 2019, the first Flight Training Device (FTD), developed by CCA-SJ, was delivered to the First Squadron of the Fifth Aviation Group (1º/5th GAV) – Rumba Squadron, at Natal Air Base (BANT), simulating the C-95M Bandeirante aircraft. Then, low-cost simulators were developed for AFA, called T-3000, which use virtual reality (VR) goggles, providing great immersion in training with the T-27 Tucano and the T-25 Universal aircraft.

With the experience acquired in the creation of these simulators, CCA-SJ was able to develop a virtual reality simulator of the A-29 Super Tucano aircraft for the Second Squadron of the Fifth Aviation Group (2/5th GAV) – Joker Squadron, in BANT, focused on training operational missions, performed in the specialization course of fighter aviation, The installation of A-29 RV simulators is underway in the First Squadron of the Third Aviation Group (1º/3rd GAV) – Scorpion Squadron, Second Squadron of the Third Aviation Group (2º/3rd GAV) – Grifo Squadron and Third Squadron of the Third Aviation Group (3rd/3rd GAV) – Arrow Squadron.

Simultaneously with the development of the A-29 RV simulators, two FTD’s of the T-27M (T-4000) aircraft were developed, with the cockpit identical to the modernized equipment used in flight by the cadets, including training of normal and emergency procedures of the aircraft, as well as pre-flight missions, maneuvers and acrobatics, graduation, navigation and instrumentation.

These simulators provide high quality training, and play a crucial role in reducing costs compared to real flights, as they allow savings in fuel, aircraft maintenance, and reduced wear and tear on equipment, while offering a suitable and controlled environment for the development of cadet skills, reducing the attrition rate in the training of aviators and flight safety.

The commitment and technological expertise of CCA-SJ reinforce the commitment of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) to invest in operational excellence, air mission safety, and resource optimization.
