Rio de Janeiro (RJ) – The Brazilian Army is cooperating with the Surinamese Armed Forces to implement the first class in the Command and General Staff Course. Last week, the Brazilian Army’s Command and General Staff School (ECEME) began the first block of instructions, via videoconference, to train Surinamese military leaders. The cooperation was requested by Suriname’s Institute for Defence Education (Instituut voor Defensie Opleidingen), as part of the Ministry of Defence’s actions to modernize its Armed Forces.

Throughout 2024, Brazilian military personnel and professors will provide instruction on topics such as geopolitics, strategic intelligence, the process of planning and conducting land operations, joint operations and logistics at the strategic and operational levels. The cooperation, supervised by the Army General Staff, also involves the participation of the Meira Mattos Institute, ECEME’s postgraduate institute.

Cooperation with nations in Brazil’s strategic environment expands the Army’s networks of institutional relations with the armed forces of regional allies. The partnership for the creation of the Command and General Staff Course in Suriname fosters the high level of specialization and professionalism of military personnel from Brazil and friendly nations, strengthening the bonds of camaraderie and friendship between the countries.
