ABIMDE honored the ceremony that took place on Monday (24); Vice-Admiral Guilherme da Silva Costa took over the position he had held since December 2021

ABIMDE (Brazilian Association of the Defense and Security Industries), represented by its Project Director, Colonel Antonio Ribeiro, attended the ceremony of change of command of the 8th Naval District of the Brazilian Navy, on Monday afternoon (24), in São Paulo (SP). Vice-Admiral Guilherme da Silva Costa passed the charge to Vice-Admiral Marco Antonio Ismael Trovão de Oliveira.

The ceremony, held at the headquarters of that traditional Navy command, was presided over by the Commander of Naval Operations, Fleet Admiral Wladmilson Borges de Aguiar. The ceremony was attended by officers from the three Armed Forces and representatives from the Legislative, Executive, and Judiciary branches, from the Federal, State, and Municipal levels, as well as members of civil society.
Vice-Admiral Guilherme da Silva Costa thanked for the support received during the entire time he has been in office, which he assumed in December 2021. His accomplishments throughout this period were highlighted by the president of the solemnity.

Vice-Admiral Trovão thanked everyone for their presence and talked about the pride and challenges of assuming the new position. He also highlighted and thanked the correctness, transparency and professionalism with which Vice-Admiral Guilherme da Silva Costa conducted the work during his tenure at the command of the 8th Naval District, which covers the states of São Paulo and Paraná.

Meet the new Commander

Vice-Admiral Trovão was born in Mandaguari (PR), on February 27th, 1968, and joined the Naval School in 1989, when he was declared as an aspirant. In 1992 he was promoted to Second Lieutenant and obtained specialization in advanced electronics for officers.

Throughout his military career, he held several command positions, such as the Patrol Ship “Guarujá”, the Fluvial Patrol Ship “Amapá”, the Port Captaincy of Espírito Santo and the Naval Attaché in Indonesia.
In the rank of Sea and War Captain, he served as Chief of Staff of the 5th Naval District Command with jurisdiction over the southern region of the country. In 2018, he was promoted to Rear Admiral, being assigned, on the Navy Staff, to the position of Chief of Strategy, followed by Chief of Budget and Master Plan. In 2022, he was promoted to Vice-Admiral and assumed the relevant position of Director of Navy Weapons Systems and has now assumed the challenging mission of commander of the 8th Naval District.

About the 8th Naval District

The 8th Naval District Command was created on April 14, 1997, with the purpose of preparing and employing the subordinate Naval and Marine Forces, in order to contribute to the defense of the Homeland, guarantee the constitutional powers, law and order, fulfill the subsidiary activities provided by law, and support foreign policy in its area of jurisdiction, which includes the states of São Paulo and Paraná.

Before the creation of the 8th District, a Naval Commission existed in São Paulo, established in October 1975. The denomination was changed to the 8th Naval District Command (Com8ºDN) by Decree No. 2,153, February 1997, expanding its attributions.
