Alto Alegre (RR) – Due to the impossibility of access by land, the work done by the 4th Special Border Platoon in Surucucu has been fundamental for the success of the various state actions in the region, such as Operation Yanomami.

Belonging to the Roraima Border Command / 7th Jungle Infantry Battalion, the Platoon, besides the mission of protection and defense of our borders, has been working intensely to combat illegal mining and to confront the public health emergency in the Yanomami territory. These actions are coordinated with other government agencies, which we know as interagency operations.

The soldiers of the 4th PEF, in recent months, have been providing operational and logistical support to the Operation, through the collection and transport of food baskets, launched from the Air Force aircraft, to the platoon’s depots. Later, these donations are distributed by helicopter to indigenous communities, according to FUNAI’s planning.

The platoon also provides logistical support to the Federal Police, IBAMA and IBGE agents, such as the provision of accommodation, food and equipment.

Around 3,000 Yanomami Indians live near the 4th PEF, distributed in 19 communities. Currently, there are indigenous people who serve in the Platoon as soldiers and who are active as guides and interpreters.

Present in the region since 1988, the 4th Special Border Platoon is based in Alto Alegre (RR) and is responsible for controlling part of the dry border with Venezuela. The 4th Special Border Platoon is the materialization of the Brazilian State’s presence in one of the most distant regions of the country, and is a fundamental part in guaranteeing the indigenous peoples’ citizenship.
