The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) is playing a key role in Operation Catrimani II, which is taking place in Boa Vista (RR). Using its Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities, the FAB is helping to identify, monitor and provide real-time information on illegal activities, such as clandestine mining in the Amazon.
Mission planning begins with defining the areas of interest, which are chosen based on intelligence analysis and prior knowledge of the area of operations. From this point, the FAB’s IVR aircraft come into play. Equipped with state-of-the-art sensors, they fly over the selected areas, capturing data that is essential for identifying, for example, illegal mining areas, clandestine airstrips and other suspicious activities, often hidden in the Amazon rainforest.
During the flight, the information is processed in real time and sent to FAB specialists who analyze and interpret the data, indicating possible points of illegal activity. Based on these analyses, detailed reports are produced which are used to increase the chances of success when carrying out operations to suppress and combat illegal mining in the Yanomami Indigenous Land.
This whole process, from planning to the execution of field actions, demonstrates the efficiency of the operations conducted by the Aerospace Operations Command (COMAE). Through these missions, the FAB reaffirms its commitment to the defense of Brazil and the protection of the Amazon, playing a vital role in preserving the environment and combating crimes that threaten the country’s future.
The Deputy Chief of the Joint Aerospace Operations Center, Colonel Leonardo Venancio Mangrich, highlighted the importance of these missions, saying that “they allow for accurate and comprehensive data collection, providing strategic advantage through continuous surveillance and the ability to analyze and respond promptly to emerging threats.”
