The company won a recent tender for arms and marked its return to the institutional market by presenting the KUNA machine gun during the 4th International COP.

SPRINGFIELD ARMORY recently announced the results of tests with the São Paulo Military Police for the supply of more than 4,000 units of the KUNA machine gun, the company’s world first. Springfield won the tender promoted by the State Government and Brazil is the first country to receive the new technology, with the Military Police being its inaugural customer.

With a history dating back to 1794, Springfield Armory was at the forefront of military weapons production for almost two centuries, until 1974, when it diversified into the commercial market. In 2024, the company celebrates its 50th anniversary and marks its return as a supplier to security and defense forces in Brazil and around the world, with the launch of a new line of products, including the KUNA .40 and 9mm machine gun, ECHELON 9mm pistol and HELLION 5.56x45mm rifle, all modular.

According to Luiz A. Horta, Tatai, Springfield Armory’s International Sales and Marketing Director, the KUNA machine gun stands out for its modularity, simplicity of maintenance and robustness. Among the advantages for the SP Military Police, Tatai highlights the significant savings on the purchase, estimating a 59% reduction in cost, as well as a 75% reduction in the need for maintenance.

“Today, our maintenance and prices are more competitive, thanks to the modularity of the KUNA machine gun, ECHELON pistol and HELLION rifle. In the latest tests, the KUNA fired more than 40,000 rounds without the need for maintenance or parts replacement, with only one campaign cleaning every 1,000 rounds, showing only four failures, a figure far below (-95%) the limit allowed by international standards, which is 80 failures in 40,000 rounds. We are setting a new level of excellence for future tenders,” he said.

Those interested in getting to know the KUNA machine gun and other products in Springfield’s portfolio will have the opportunity to see it up close during the 4th Police Operations Congress – COP International, an event that will take place from October 16 to 18 at the São Paulo Expo, in São Paulo.

“COP is an event that has come to bring together authorities, professionals, the industry and society around Public Security. Springfield Armory is a great partner of the event and is bringing technology that is way ahead of our time, which will undoubtedly contribute to the country’s police activities,” says João Sansone, the creator and organizer of COP 2024

COP International is the largest Latin American event focused on police activity. It is free for professionals from the security and defense forces, open to the public aged 18 and over and registration is now open at https://cop.international/.
