Saab has received an order from the Swedish Defense Material Administration (FMV) for the Giraffe 1X radar as the country’s Ground-Based Air Defense (GBAD) solution. The contract period is 2024-2027 and the value is approximately SEK 700 million.
The order includes Saab’s Giraffe 1X radar, associated command and control systems and integration into a Swedish GBAD solution. The radar will be installed on a Sisu GTP armored vehicle.
“I am proud that Sweden has chosen to integrate our versatile Giraffe 1X surface radar as part of its ground-based air defense. Our solution will contribute to strengthening Sweden’s ground-based air defense capability and to protecting forces with advanced capabilities to detect and identify threats on the battlefield,” says Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab’s Surveillance business area.
Giraffe 1X provides commanders with quality air defense target data, drone detection for counter-UAS and simultaneous detection and warning capability for rockets, artillery and mortars. Giraffe 1X also offers continuous software updates to meet emerging threats.
