Naval Force presents advances in its strategic programs

The 8th edition of the BID Show, the most important event for Brazil’s Defence and Security Industrial Base, organized by the Brazilian Association of Defence and Security Materials Industries (ABIMDE), in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex Brasil) and with the support of the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, began on Tuesday (3).

The event brings together 90 exhibitors at the Ulysses Guimarães Convention Center in Brasília (DF), who will be presenting the latest technological innovations in products and systems for use by the Armed and Security Forces until tomorrow (5).

For the Defense and Security Industry, the show provides greater visibility through a platform for companies in the sector to present their products and services to a qualified audience, generating ample business opportunities. In addition, the event stimulates innovation, technological development, the strengthening of the production chain and access to regional markets,“ said the Minister of Defense, José Mucio Monteiro Filho, during the opening ceremony of the Exhibition, adding that last year this industry registered a new record in authorized exports in the order of US$ 1.74 billion.

New opportunities

We sell products to around 100 countries, on all continents; we participate with 3.58% of the country’s GDP; and we register in the IDB more than 2.9 million direct and indirect jobs. Thus, the Defense Industry accounts for 2.1% of the country’s formal jobs. Each job in the IDB generates three other jobs in other sectors,” explained the Minister, for whom the figures mean social inclusion, new opportunities and economic growth. “In addition, not only the economic sector benefits, but also the scientific and technological field,” he said.

For the Commander of the Navy, Admiral Marcos Sampaio Olsen, who was also present at the opening ceremony, the sovereignty and prosperity of a nation depends on its degree of technological autonomy. “It is within this framework that the three forces, the Navy in particular, stimulate science, research and development in various areas. These are sensitive technologies, at the frontier of knowledge and therefore involve a degree of risk that needs to be well understood and have a legal framework that effectively promotes the further development of the Defense Industrial Base,” he said.

Strategic naval defense programs

The Navy is participating in the 8th BID Exhibition with a stand, where the public can learn about the main strategic programs in the area of naval defense and try out the parachute simulator used in military training.

The Navy’s presence at the show is fundamental for awakening those technologies in the Defense Industrial Base that are of interest to the Naval Force. The Force has to obtain and maintain capabilities in order to respond adequately to its constitutional and supplementary law duties. It’s a broad field of action and the Force must have the responsibility to prepare itself to face these challenges,” explained the Navy Commander.

Over the three days of the event, the organizers expect to receive a larger audience than the previous edition, which had 4,000 visitors. In addition to the exhibition, panels and lectures are scheduled on topics such as cyber defense, technological advances in the aerospace sector, dual products, naval and river platforms, command and control systems, among others. Registration is free and can still be done at mostrabidbrasil.com, where more information is also available.
