Surface ships and systems
- Frigate FDI
The FDI frigate brings together the latest in technology and innovation for naval operations, designed for crisis management and naval supremacy in high-intensity conflicts. The compact frigate is designed to carry out a wide range of missions, whether in solo operations or integrated into a naval force, demonstrating high performance both in long-duration missions on the high seas and in coastal operations, even in congested and highly contested littoral environments.
The IDF has advanced anti-air warfare, anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare and asymmetric warfare capabilities, taking into account the French Navy’s operational track record in operations. Modular and scalable, the FDI can be adapted to meet the specific needs of each navy. Ready for technology transfer and local construction, this frigate contributes to the sovereignty of countries. The FDI has already been ordered by France and Greece, with the first deliveries scheduled for 2025.
- Gowind corvette
The Gowind® is a multi-mission Surface Combat Ship, designed to perform the full range of naval defense operations and maritime security functions, with the highest level of performance. Gowind® offers the capabilities of a light frigate in all combat domains. Robust and well-equipped, the Gowind® integrates, through the Naval Group’s SETIS® Combat Management System and innovative structural solutions, state-of-the-art sensors and weapons. Designed to combat air and submarine threats from the earliest stages of the engineering process, the Gowind® is multifunctional by design.
An international success story, Gowind® is already in service and meets the strategic needs of major navies, with 11 units already chosen by several countries that need a multi-mission combat ship to carry out maritime protection operations and guarantee their sovereignty. Most of these units are built locally, thanks to technology transfer and partnerships with local industries.
- Modular Multifunctional Launch System (MPLS): a single launcher for several means of self-defense
Far from the traditional logic of “one launcher per type of weapon”, the MPLS is the Naval Group’s response to the current context of asymmetric and multifaceted threats. A real technological breakthrough, the Naval Group’s MPLS is capable of deploying multiple delivery systems, offering unprecedented payload capacity and simplified on-board integration. The MPLS offers a considerably improved short-range self-defense capability (up to 8 kilometers), the possibility of integrating additional capabilities on board (rockets, missiles, grenades, underwater weapons, decoys, UAVs) and a greater ammunition load capacity (around 1,000 kilograms), all thanks to its interchangeable ammunition module technology.
- Mine countermeasures ship
The solution acquired by the navies of Belgium and the Netherlands represents a complete paradigm shift in the way mines are fought, with the ship and the ship handling and mine countermeasures team remaining at a safe distance from the danger (stand-off). Only drones enter the suspected minefield. The aim of this robotic mine countermeasures concept is to keep seafarers away from the threat zone and minimize human intervention. This solution also allows the minefield to be deactivated more quickly than with conventional means. So while there will always be a phased approach to searching for and neutralizing mines, most tasks can be carried out in parallel by different drones, rather than one after the other, as is currently the case.
Submarines and systems
- Barracuda family submarines
The Suffren nuclear attack submarines (SSN), built under the Barracuda program, are among the most powerful in the world and were designed to ensure France’s naval strength. The French Navy’s new nuclear attack submarine is versatile, agile, resistant and can be quickly deployed. Its missions cover all fields of combat: support for deterrence, deep attacks, surveillance of large areas, integration with an air force, cooperation in coalitions and special forces operations.
The Blacksword® Barracuda is stealthy, equipped with a wide range of sensors, armaments and means of action, and is one of the most powerful conventional submarines in the world. Designed to be robust and resilient, it enables operations in distant, long-lasting and increasingly demanding environments. Submarines of this class benefit from the latest advances in the French SSN Barracuda program. The conventional version of the Barracuda was chosen by the Netherlands.
While submarine construction is Naval Group’s focus, its internationalization strategy has boosted another essential activity: infrastructure. The company’s ability to develop infrastructure adapted to ships throughout their life cycle, from design to maintenance in operational conditions, has become a crucial part of its export offerings.
- Scorpène submarine
The Scorpène conventional attack submarine is a proven vessel in maritime operations, designed by Naval Group to cover the full spectrum of submarine warfare, including anti-surface combat, anti-submarine warfare, special operations and intelligence gathering. Stealthy and highly combat-capable (torpedoes and missiles), the Scorpène® boasts operational readiness, contributing to effective deterrence.
With 14 submarines built worldwide, the Scorpène is an important reference among conventional attack submarines (SSK) for navies around the world. It can be easily adapted to the specific needs of customers, and its continuous improvement guarantees the integration of the latest technologies on board.
- F21 torpedo
The F21 is a heavy torpedo capable of covering the widest range of complex missions, with a high level of decision autonomy. Equipped with energy technology that offers the best balance between endurance, speed and safety, its advanced computing power enables real-time sensor processing, target discrimination and situation assessment, even in complex environments. The F21’s advanced mission system, developed with a focus on man-machine teamwork, provides the operator with a clear and dynamic view, allowing for timely interventions for optimized decision-making.
With more than 100 shots fired in operations, the F21 is in service on all the French Navy’s submarines and the Brazilian Navy’s Scorpène submarines. The aim now is to adopt an incremental approach to maintain the weaponry at the highest level throughout its service life.
Drones and autonomous systems
Naval Group designs, develops and integrates naval surface, underwater and aerial drone systems. The company also develops other capabilities, including drone projection vessels for mine warfare and anti-submarine warfare, as well as important associated technologies. Naval Group invests in future concepts through simulation, AI and digital twins, making drones, whether integrated into ships or used autonomously, essential and fully integrated elements of naval forces.
The SeaQuest S is the first in a line of surface drones developed by the Naval Group through its subsidiary Sirehna, and produced in partnership with the Couach-CNC shipyard. This unmanned surface vehicle (USV) has been designed in a modular way to meet the operational needs of users, whether governments (including those requiring weapons transportation) or civilian entities. This first production ship was launched in July 2024.
Services
Today, threats and technologies are evolving rapidly. To maintain operational superiority and efficiency, warships need to be upgraded regularly. This process is challenging, requiring speed and limited resources. Naval Group offers customized, scalable solutions that can be integrated into the existing environment to modernize surface combatants, submarines and logistics vessels to meet new challenges, regardless of whether they were designed by the company or not. With specialized skills, Naval Group has the ability to develop and provide customized expansion and upgrade solutions for all types of naval platforms and systems throughout their entire life cycle.
The company also has a wide range of specific solutions and added values to increase the operational potential of the fleet.
