With the objective of expanding the vision on the national power of the Brazilian State, from the integration of perceptions in the field of security, development, and defense, the Minister of Defense, José Mucio Monteiro Filho, held a lecture on Thursday (16), at the Superior Defense School (ESD – Escola Superior de Defesa), in Brasilia (DF). The presentation is part of the first Annual Lecture Cycle (CAP) of 2023 and the master class of the Course of Advanced Defense Studies (CAED).
The Commander of ESD, Vice-Admiral Paulo Renato Rohwer Santos, opened the ceremony and highlighted that the event meets the institution’s motto ꟷ “Knowledge for Defense” ꟷ, since the activity seeks to disseminate qualitative knowledge through the analysis and discussion of current issues of great relevance to Brazil.
Investments – Under the title “Ministry of Defense and the challenges for Defense and Security in Brazil”, the minister’s presentation highlighted the importance of defense for the country. In his explanation, José Mucio addressed the investments that the area demands. “We have a group dedicated to seeking external sources and funds to invest in the defense industry. The objective is to raise funds to be destined to the Armed Forces, because investing in the defense industry is to strengthen internal defense, to guarantee our physical and territorial integrity, to stimulate technology, to generate quality jobs, to serve society, and to achieve social inclusion,” he said.
The event was aimed at senior officers of the Armed Forces (AF), senior federal administration employees, and members of CAED and of the Strategic Intelligence Superior Course (CSIE).
The presentation was also attended by the Commander of the Brazilian Army (EB), Army General Tomás Miguel Miné Ribeiro Paiva; the Commander of the Air Force, Air Lieutenant Brigadier Marcelo Kanitz Damasceno; the Chief of the Joint Staff (EMCFA), Fleet Admiral Renato Rodrigues de Aguiar Freire; and the Chief of Education and Culture of the Joint Staff, Army General Luciano Guilherme Cabral Pinheiro; among other authorities.
